The Courageous Spark
Your spark of awakening to True Self

Oops...rough path
I thought I'd share a recent ah-ha moment. I couldn’t understand why I’ve been watching a bunch of YouTube videos on how to be your best self, and reach your full potential, etc… It was a rabbit hole I just couldn't get myself out of. But tonight I started reading a book, The Journey Within: Exploring the Path of Bhakti. The premise of the book is to help you find your True Self. I’m about halfway through and I realized why I’ve been so overwhelmed and unhappy. For those of y

My journey so far
I thought I’d share a bit about me and how I ended up believing so deeply in metaphysical practices and the idea of going deep within ourselves to find the peace we are all seeking. Throughout my teen years I’d been looking for something “out there,” a something that was greater than me. I believed there was a power that would bring peace and love “to” me. Something that would explain why we are here and what we are meant to do. I can’t explain it. It was some deep urging tha

Co-create vs. Desire
I believe we are misaligning with our manifestation attempts. All the focus has been on the right way to manifest, and everyone has an opinion on this…including me. 😊 I don’t believe we are meant to “act” accordingly, or “assume” the desired end, or “fake it ‘til you make it”. As I’ve mentioned before, to me these appear to be external “acts” of desires. By following these recommendations we leave out the greatest power we have in ourselves…and that’s union with the divine..

I've figured it out!
Ok. I’m back at it again. I can’t let this go!! Yes!! It’s about last week’s post! As many of you know, the blog post I wrote last week (and then deleted) bothered me. It was about manifestation vs. spiritual growth. I did try to salvage it, but the revisions only made it worse. I couldn’t understand what it was about the post that was so uncomfortable for me. Then, today I read two books (well… I read ½ of one and then started the other). It isn’t necessary to tell you the n

The Dimming of Our Light: Where our true self resides.
I'm going to begin this post with a quote: “Your identity is a mirror covered with dust. When you first look in the mirror, the truth of who you are and what you value is obscured. Clearing it may not be pleasant, but only when that dust is gone can you see your true reflection.” Attributed to Gauranga Das, in Jay Shetty’s book Think Like a Monk. I learned something similar to this in my Reiki studies of Mikao Usui. In these readings, our True Self was likened to a lamp whose

A Glimmer of Silence: A reflection of your True Self
With all the self-help messages that bombard us on social media, it’s easy to doubt whether we are enough. We forget that we’ve made it this far and we’re doing pretty good. We’ve learned from the school of hard-knocks, faced challenges, and we’re still here…actually stronger than we were before. In all that noise, we forget the wisdom that already lives quietly inside us.” I learned a new Japanese word today: Seijaku—deep stillness, tranquility, quiet. The kind of silence wh

Janus, God of New Beginnings & Reflection
Did you know the month of January is named after Janus, the Roman God of new beginnings? Janus is depicted as having two faces, one facing the past and one facing the future. He is a God of transitions and reflection. When looking toward 2024 we might consider honoring the characteristics of Janus. Heading into the new year, everyone has a unique perspective on how to welcome it. This might include: · Resolutions made · No resolutions, just looking toward the ne

What I Did This Summer
Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remember a Seth Godin quote about coming up with a lot of bad ideas so eventually, good ones have to show up. I’m sharing one of my most recent bad ideas, that took quite of bit of research time, and then in an instant it crash-landed. I'm going to save you, and me, from having to go through how the idea came up, but I had the idea that it would be fun to write a book of quotes by Herman Munster. Why Herman? Well, a few years ago I read a q

You are marvelous!
You know, it's ok to not be perfect. To not know what you want to do with your life, no matter your age. I've spent many minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years, berating myself because I just could NOT “settle” for one thing. I had SO MANY interests. I felt I must be weird or at least abnormal compared to what I was seeing in the world: everyone working hard at their jobs/careers, or retired from jobs/careers and enjoying their retirement. Although retired, I still co

Small Steps
“Do not seek after the truth. Only cease to hold opinions”. (this is a quote from the Shinjinmei (Believing in Mind), a short piece attributed to the third patriarch, Seng-ts’an). What's your problem...with meditation?
Take time to meditate you're told. Like you have time, right? Believe it or not, though…5 minutes of your day is really all you need to just begin. Those 5 minutes can have an immediate impact on your mind, body, and spirit. Just words, right? What keeps people from pursuing meditation even knowing the positive impact it would have on their daily lives? See if any of these ring true to you: TIME: Too busy. People find themselves “doing” too much, which keeps them busy

Finding strength in your weakness
To have compassion for others you must first practice compassion with yourself. It's difficult to do when so many of us live in the past, chastising ourselves for what we did wrong or how we acted poorly. It takes courage to face ourselves and show compassion to our past actions. We did the best we could based on what we knew then. We've grown from them. Today, I read a wonderful post from The International House of Reiki that I’d like to share with you. The link is at the

The Shadow Knows
(I realize this post is longer than usual, but I sincerely hope that you give it a read and contemplate how, by the end of it, it may have helped you in your own growth.) I mentioned on my website recently that I’ve been introduced to the writings of Carl Jung. The reference on my website was in regard to how Jung considered tarot a method of identifying archetypes that we share in all cultures. However, on further Jung reading, I’ve become acquainted with the “shadow self”

The Ongoing-ness of Becoming...
This Reiki journey that I’ve chosen has ensured that my life is not stagnant. I am not only expanding my own awareness of energy healing, I am discovering areas of the psyche I never thought I’d pursue so intensely. Recently, and inevitably, I have found Carl Jung’s books. These readings have whisked me off to a new level of familiarity with the unconscious mind…and with this new understanding and acceptance, comes growth and changes. I hope you will continue on this journ

Being a Life-long Learner
I purchased my first singing bowl from The Ohm Store. Loving the beautiful vibrations and tones. I will be including this in my Reiki sessions. "To be a "life-long" learner is to experience constant energy, excitement and curiosity for what you don't already know. Imagine waking each day with the anticipatory excitement that something new is just over the horizon". The Ohm Store Beautiful artwork by: Susan Seddon Boulet Feel free to share this with a friend! Looking Within
I've spent years fretting about my life's purpose. Wondering just what exactly my passion might be. Unable to answer that dreaded question, "if you knew absolutely that you could not fail, what would you do/be"? Now, with more years behind me than ahead of me, I'm accepting what I believe to be true. Consider this: what if we took away the words purpose, passion, life path, & bliss and just focused on developing our best self? What if our true purpose is to strive to be t
